Cobalt gets its from german miners that would refer to blue cobalt-containing ore as “kobold ore” which is german for “goblin ore”. Cobalt compounds have been used as dyes since 1400 BC to color glass, glazes, and ceramics. In modern-day industries, cobalt is used in lithium-ion batteries, wear-resistant metal alloys, and as a catalyst for drying oils.
