This unique piece of Fulgurite was formed long ago when lightning struck the floor of the Mojave Desert. It is approximately 8.5 inches long, 4.5 inches wide, and 710 grams in weight. It is a unique piece and would be a great addition for anybody’s collection. The Fulgurite pictured in the photo is the actual piece you will receive.
Fulgurites are natural tubes or crusts of glass formed by the fusion of silica (quartz) sand or rock from a lightning strike. Their shape mimics the path of the lightning bolt as it disperses into the ground! A temperature of 1800 degrees Celsius is required to instantaneously melt sand and form a fulgurite (most lightning strikes have a temperature of 2500 degrees Celsius). Naturally made Fulgurites have been found worldwide, but are relatively rare. See geology dot utah dot gov.
Although most collectors seek out fulgurite solely for its looks, some people believe the lightning stones hold magical abilities to help focus one's energy, enhance creativity and heal various illnesses! The TV show 'Supernatural' used Fulgurite to summon the Gods! See treehugger dot com.
We do rinse our Fulgurite. After rinsing some plant, insect, or other biological matter may still cling to it. Fulgurite is fossilized and fragile. Handling may cause some sand grains or small chunks to fall off which is normal so please handle with care.
