    Description

My father was the Managing Director of KA-BAR Knives for over 30 years. During his tenure at KA-BAR, he accumulated a significant collection of KA-BAR knives, KA-BAR Company historical documents, advertising materials, and a whole lot of KA-BAR miscellany.
The collection includes; antique and vintage KA-BAR knives, concept, pre-production, and production prototypes and samples. Some of these prototypes were never put into production and are one-of-a-kind. There are also many one-off custom Ka-BAR knives as well as some knives from other manufacturers. I don't have an exact count, but I estimate that there are 450-500 knives in the collection. An estate signed Certificate of Authenticity will come with every knife.
PLEASE READ THIS OFFERING IN IT'S ENTIRETY BEFORE BIDDING ON THIS ITEM.
The Khyber "The Kid" was made, in Japan, by Mitsuboshi Cutlery. Khyber was a high quality Japanese cutlery line imported by KA-BAR.
This Prototype has a tapered tang with a red liner under a "Faux" Ivory handle. The handle has a crack radiating out of the front rivet on the mark side.
Included in this auction is a mock-up of a design for upgraded packaging for customized versions of this knife. The art and packaging was created by M. R. Reinschreiber. It was never put into production.
The knife has never been carried or sharpened.
    Certificate of Authenticity included.
I make every effort to ship within 24 hours of payment, however, sometimes life interferes. Please allow up to 3 business days for shipping.
    NOTES ON CONDITION
I am not going to assign a collectors grade to any knife in this sale. I will post photos and the most accurate description, that I can. All defects, that I notice, will be mentioned.
I am not a photographer, but I will post the best photos that I can. If you want to see a close up, that I haven?t posted, please contact me and I will be happy to post additional photos.
No knives have been buffed, polished or deep cleaned for the purpose of this sale.
The knives have been in storage for 25-50 years. Most of the knives were coated in a thick layer of a Cosmoline before being put away for long-term storage. In some cases, the Cosmoline hardened to a crust.
The knives have been cleaned with a light alcohol wipe to remove the Cosmoline and prepare them for photography. They have not been deep cleaned or polished, in any way. There may still be some residual Cosmoline on the knife. In a few cases, the Cosmoline has gummed up the knife?s action causing sluggish walk and talk or blades with a hard pull or action. A thorough cleaning should alleviate most, if not all, of these issues.
Some of these knives are for sale locally. I reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time.
This is an estate liquidation. All Sales are final.
Thanks for reading this through and bidding in this auction.
Bid high, bid often, and good luck!
