Description
This listing is for a vintage "MARBLES" brand sheath knife which in my opinion, bears a relatively close resemblance to the old WWII USN "MK1" type navy knives, (only with a longer blade), however I'm sure this was a commercial and NOT a military issued knife. The blade is in rough shape however, and quite rusty. I've not endeavored in the least to clean it at all, and will leave that task up to its new owner as I'm sure someone "in the know" can do a far better job at restoring this blade than can I....The markings on the ricasso are still quite clear, with the stylized "Marbles Gladstone Mich., USA" logo. The cutting edge and tip are also free from chips and gouges, and I'm of the impression that the rusty blade is just the result of LOOOONG repose in the leather sheath in a less than ideal environment (think BASEMENT)... The guard is brass, and has no movement, there are alternating black and red washers between the guard and the aluminum pommel. The pommel / tang are secured via an inletted brass capstan nut. The stacked leather washer grip is also mostly intact with some light impressions from use, but no damage to speak of. The blade measures 6 1/2 inches, and the entire knife measures 10 3/4 inches from blade tip to top of the pommel. The leather scabbard is mostly intact, albeit dry, and the stitching is still solid. The long (male) end of the hilt retention strap is missing, however the female (snap) end is still intact. There's some surface cracking from dryness on the belt loop section, but I'm sure the entire sheath would benefit greatly from the application of some good quality leather treatment. I sincerely hope that this knife ends up w/ someone who can restore the blade, as overall, it's a very worthy restoration project IMO, as these old Marlbes knives are great collectibles, and this one may well clean up to be quite presentable again in the right hands....If you have a talent for restoring vintage hunting knives, this will make for a nice project...Don't miss it!Buyer is responsible for actual postage costs, to be tabulated at the close of sale based on the buyers location and method shipped* (**typically via USPS Priority Mail), which may include insurance and / or signature confirmation fees.
