Pyrite is a brass-yellow mineral with a bright metallic luster. Pyrite is heavy. Pyrite is stunning.
Pyrite consists of crystal cubes, and sometime shapes named '
pyritohedrons'. Under magnification striations are visible. I love pyrite.
The variety of the cube face orientation, the array of crystal shapes, and the size of the vugs make this sculpted piece a stand out from others. The largest vug, or chamber, extends
nearly
to the center of the egg. With the slightest change in orientation, new brilliant beams of light reflect back in rich intensity. This is greatly demonstrated in the video.
This Egg is heavier. There is a wonderfully sculptured cavern on the end.
I have taken numerous photos which may look identical. Actually the depth of field is adjusted in each to show the sharpness of detail of the crystals which may appear blurred in other photos. So please look each image over carefully.
This Egg originates from Peru. Some of the highest quality pyrite comes out of Peru. And this egg is one of the finer specimens out of that world renowned region.
