Description
Shapleigh Hardware was one of America's premier hardware chains, founded in 1843. This chain was also associated with the Keen Kutter logo after Shapleigh was purchased by E C Simmons. This hunting knife features a molded handle, with integral pommel. I believe that these knives were made by Western Cutlery as a contract knife, since Western also produced an identical model bearing the Western Cutlery stamping. Also, the keeper snap on the sheath is identical in design to those used by Western Cutlery. circa 1930-40's.
The handle is in outstanding shape, highly polished, with no chips, cracks. The handle is mottled brown with gold streaks.
The blade is full, also highly polished, with NO signs of rusting, pitting, or major scratches. The guard is aluminum
The sheath is original to the knife, and also bears the Shapleigh Hardware, St. Louis stamping. There are no missing stitches, or cuts to the sheath, which has original rivets and keeper strap
A super addition to any Western Cutlery contract knife collection. An excellent hunting knife for a female companion.
