THE SPECIMEN IS FROM
MT. WILSON SUMMIT, WILSON CREEK RANGE, LINCOLN CO., NEVADA
. IGNIMBRITE IS A VOLCANIC (EXTRUSIVE) IGNEOUS ROCK. IGNIMBRITE IS COMPOSED GLASSY SHARDS, LAPALLI PUMICE AND XENOLITHS OF OTHER ROCKS CAUGHT UP IN THE PYROCLASTIC FLOW. THE EXTRUSIVE MATERIAL WAS HOT ENOUGH TO LITHIFY (FUSE INTO A SOLID ROCK). THIS IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THE IGNIMBRITE THAT OCCURS IN EASTERN NEVADA FROM SOUTHERN IDAHO ALL THE WAY TO SOUTHERN NEVADA .
