Description
Offered for your consideration is a solid vintage Old Timer 152 "Sharpfinger" hunting knife from Schrade. This is one of Schrade's classic patterns that remains very popular for its performance, durability, and versatility. It's just a great all-around knife for field, stream, and/or woods. This model was introduced in 1973 and remained in production until Schrade's closure. There were some slight variations over the years. This example lacks the "OT" designation after the model number and it's also the version with the lanyard hole in the handle.Schrade closed its doors in 2004. Schrade knives are now being made in China and the quality is certainly not what it was during the many decades that the Schrade name was synonymous with American quality. This is an older U.S. made knife and offers the fine quality and performance that built Schrade's fine name.
The knife has seen quite a bit of use and it remains very solid with lots of life left. It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original.
This is a solidly built, no non-sense knife that offers excellent capabilities. The thick carbon steel blade is free of any serious corrosion or deep pitting with just a couple scattered spots of light surface corrosion as shown. It has a natural carbon patina that's even on both sides. The blade was ground with an integral guard and thumb depression in the spine. These are integral components of the grip and they really make this knife. The blade is free of any errant grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions with just an area of fine vertical sharpening abrasions on the front side and a few fine abrasions on the back side as shown. This was magnified by the camera flash in the photos. The edge remains very nice and it's free of any nicks, chips, dings, or damage with just a bit of normal wear. It remains somewhat sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a quick touch-up would have it razor sharp in no time. The needle-sharp tip is intact and original with no blunting, burrs, or bending. The thick spine if free of any dings, dents, marring, or damage. The handle is of Schrade's classic saw-cut Delrin that was used on the Old Timer series. The thick scales were tightly pinned and they're free of any cracks, chips, hairlines, gouges, or damage with just some normal wear. The inlaid "Old Timer" shield remains tightly secured and the butt has a lanyard tube. The Delrin remains dark and rich with no fade, sun bleaching, stains, or discoloration. The handle has a lanyard hole for a leather wrist thong.
The knife has a 3-1/2" blade and measures 7-1/8" in overall length.
The sheath is the original and remains very solid as well. It shows quite a bit of carry and the tip has been reinforced a piece of leather secured by a section of shoestring as shown. The leather remains soft and supple with no dryness or cracking. It shows no dry-rot or degradation with no water exposure damage. The stitching remains intact and tight with no visible missing or loose stitches. One side of the throat has been repaired with another section of shoestring. The retainer strap is the original and it snaps securely closed.
A very solid, original example of this classic knife from an American cutlery icon!!
