Vintage Shefeeld MACHETE w/Sheath VIETNAM ERA JAPAN MADE 18" Blade

Description

Vintage  with canvas sheath VIETNAM ERA made in Japan. It has an 18-inch blade with a 5-inch full tang. Takes and holds a sharp edge.
There were lots of these Japanese-made machetes floating around Vietnam in the 60s, apparently made by the same manufacturer under different names. This one, marked and spelled "SHEFEELD MACHETTE, was an unapologetic knockoff of the classic Sheffield England machetes dating back to WWII and Korea.
It wasn't Sheffield quality, but it survived months of doing the job and was a lot cheaper. This one still has some of the original gun blacking on it. The hard rubber handle - like the sheath, clearly marked Made in Japan - is in very good shape, mainly because it was wrapped with hundred-mile-an-hour tape when it was used the most.
